Judith Soffa discovered yoga at the age of 14. Intrigued by the yoga postures presented on a television show in the early 1970s, a continued interest throughout her teens led her to search for a yoga class. Eventually as a student at The University of Essex she found a class with an Iyengar Yoga trained teacher. At that very first class Judi was captivated and knew immediately that she wanted to learn more. This was to herald the beginning of a lifelong dedication to yoga and a thirst for more understanding and knowledge in the subject. Fortunately, at that time in England, there were several teachers, personally trained by BKS Iyengar and Judi was fortunate to learn directly with Silva and Mira Mehta, Sasha Perryman, and later on Jeanne Maslen with whom she trained to teach. After obtaining her first Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate in 1981, the same year Judi travelled to Pune, India and attended one of the early intensives taught by Guruji at the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute. Visiting the Pune Institute for Intensives and General classes, she teaches in her own Yoga Studio in Liverpool. She is a Senior I teacher, and teacher trainer and assessor for the IY(UK) and is co-editor for IY UK News.
